This poem is dedicated to Mr. Devries, founder of Kids Helping Kids who has been able to shed a light in the darkness and encourages others to follow his example.
Silence. Misery. Darkness.
We are trapped, all of us.
I met a girl. Her name is Monica.
Her story is being told. The system is being broken down.
Mumbai, India. The Red Light District. Sex Slavery. Human Trafficking.
There are girls and boys there, the same age as us.
Born into a system of oppression. Have never seen the light of day.
Day after day they are broken down to think that what they are living... is all there is to life.
It’s a lie. It all is a lie.
They deserve so much more.
They deserve to be free. They deserve change.
Change can happen, and it does.
But only if WE can free ourselves from the cages we live in.
We may live in hypothetical cages, but those in India live in metal cages.
Our cages are our fears that drown us, our self imposed limitations.
Jealousy. Lack of self worth. Wanting to please others. How is your heart caged?
It is a hard life we live, all of us caged up in our worries,
To escape them is a mental game.
But when we do, WE Set Beautiful Free.
When we escape from our hypothetical cages. We are able lift those metal cages.
When we think outside our ourselves and put the focus on others, joy flows.
We need to change our mindset, to live for others.
The silence, break the silence, speak up against those who hurt you those who bring the darkness.
And those who bring the darkness, my heart aches for them and I plead that they will see the light.
Because when we see the light, we are able to lift ALL of the cages and spread the light onto others.
We are able to Set Beautiful Free.
